According to the Accountability system outlined in NCLB, districts that fail to make adequate yearly progress for four consecutive years are identified for Corrective Action. As of August 18, NJDOE is projecting that approximately 20 districts will be eligible for Corrective Action based upon the final analysis of AYP data for the 2005-06 testing cycle. NJDOE has asked MACC to assist with the development of policy for Corrective Action districts. One of the challenges for NJDOE is to identify and develop a needs assessment process for the Corrective Action districts. One of the options is a modified version of the NJQSAC process. Another challenge is to align the state’s efforts with schools and districts in need of improvement to identify the level of intervention for each districts and its schools. NJDOE must also identify research-based practices that can be used to address the needs of Corrective Action districts. MACC will identify and utilize resources from other states. MACC will also confer with the Innovation and Improvement Content Center to identify additional resources for supporting the work with New Jersey. The immediate goal is to increase state capacity in the area of using data to identify and differentiate the needs of Corrective Action districts so that appropriate assistance can be delivered to address these needs. The long-term goal of this project is to assist NJDOE in assessing and building the capacity of districts.
