Advisory Board

MACC Advisory Board 
According to Section 203 of Title II of the Education Technical Assistance Act, each Regional Comprehensive Center is required to establish an advisory board. Board members are required to advise MACC on its activities in the region. In addition, they receive an orientation to the main issues that contribute to the challenges of building state education agency capacity.

 

Board members include the five Chief State School Officers in our region (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.) The Chiefs also nominated other members, including classroom educators, school administrators, education researchers, parents and business leaders.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Meeting annually to advise MACC on the manner in which it has recognized the region's needs and responded to them
  • Assisting MACC in developing and adjusting its regional agenda for action
  • Reviewing and commenting on MACC regional plans and activities
  • Serving as resources and consultants in designing and planning regional events
  • Representing your stakeholder group's interests and concerns
  • Keeping abreast of education-related developments in the region and informing MACC staff of essential news.
  • Participating in periodic teleconferences, webcasts, conference calls, and other means of building a community of interest and action
  • Representing MACC at state and national events, as needed

Spring 2009

June 8th and 9th, 2009, MACC's Advisory Board held its annual meeting with a spotlight on MACC’s regional work addressing statewide systems of support.  The meeting theme was aligning statewide systems of support actions with the four assurance areas featured in ARRA, and the agenda included a discussion of Year 4's work and products as well as proposed Year 5 state work related to statewide systems of support.
Roberto Rodriguez, special assistant to the President for education policy, who is now working with the Domestic Policy Council was a special guest at the meeting.

Spring 2008

On June 9th and 10th, 2008 MACC's Advisory Board met in Arlington, Virginia, to review and discuss MACC's regional work addressing statewide systems of support, and state work plans related to those systems. Gene Wilhoit, Executive Director of CCSSO and Robert Tobias, distinguished adjunct professor in residence at American Univeristy and member of the Internal Revenue Service Oversight Board were featured panelists.

Spring 2007

On June 26-27, MACC's Advisory Board met in Washington, D.C., to review its Year 2 (2006–07) work, share plans for its Year 3 (2007–08) work, and gather comments on future directions from board members. Guest Speakers at the meeting included Roberto Rodriguez, Senior Education Advisor to US Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Massachusetts), and Gene Wilhoit, Executive Director of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).

Spring 2006

On May 25-26, MACC's Advisory Board met to review its Year 1 (2005–06) work, and share plans for its Year 2 (2006–07) work. Dr. Charlene Rivera, MACC Director, opened the meeting with greetings, presided over member and staff introductions, and explained the purpose of MACC, and the role of the Regional Advisory Board in MACC’s work.
